SPECIAL KITTEN

Tripod encountered a birth mishap and as a result he has most of his right front leg missing. After determining he is a healthy kitten, and vet discussion, we decided not to put this wonderful boy down and give him a chance. We knew there would be someone who would cherish having an unusual Bengal that is at the same time outstanding in beauty.
He cannot be shown in Championship although his quality, if he had all his parts, would warrant it.
At five weeks old, we are seeing evidence of what we believed would happen. Tripod, as we have lovingly nicknamed him, had no idea that he should have a right front leg, and he has already learned to accomodate not having it and done so faster than we imagined he would. He is a little chubby baby and for the first few days his one front leg was not strong enough to handle all his weight right away. Besides, in those first few days all babies are so awkward anyway as they discover how to navigate in a brand new "up on all four" position. Now, Tripod has had no difficulty at all with balance and doing things like any other normal kitten. He leaps and bounds with great agility and speed to get where he's going. It is truly incredible to watch his determination.
We are so proud of him.
Tripod will continue to grow to be another of our stunning marbled, wild looking cats
that will make someone who loves him very happy.

UPDATE - (taken from an afternoon's email conversation with Barb)

Tripod made Lindsey and I laugh so hard we nearly were in tears. I have NEVER seen a cat like this. He is like a "squirrel" and he uses his tail for balance. But that is not what's funny - he for some reason does not want to be held in any way by anyone (in a goofy way), so with kitten attacks (Loki pounces) and him attacking back when he gets pinned down - he is like a cork screw and spins his back end around and meanders backwards out of any situation. This is done at lightning speed and it is absolutely crazy. The more we laugh the squirlier he gets and then attacks Imax who's in my bedroom with him raising her two kittens. She does everything in her power to discipline him, but he goes into kickboxing routines as seen in animated cartoons. She even tries to sit on him to bathe him having to splay her entire weight on this furry helium filled balloon. He is a monster and his back end is all over the place whipping about like the air quickly escaping a let go balloon until it morphs out from under and spirals away, out and into the open room, erratically covering both horizontal and vertical space (often backwards) that would impress folks at Nassau. We then see the look on Imax's face and she is bewildered. She must wonder if this kitten is some kind of alien?

I have never laughed so much at a kitten and at his chirping if you touch him. It is as if to say "Don't touch me. Don't touch me...", "And for goodness sake do not pick me up!!!" At the same time he is not really anti-social, just his own kind of socialization mandated by his own way of being that is very, very unique. We also take into consideration what happens when you pick up a fully wound, wind up toy and the associated whirrrrrrrr......... when there are no hard surfaces to ground the motor mechanism adding helium to the accompanying flight. He is a total goof.

Added Notes:
When describing the way he revs up and first thinking its like a toy car that has the wheels that you run a few times on the floor to wind it up and let go and it takes off on its own - that comparison is a bit boring because he does not go straight at all. It is like winding up a spring twisting it tighter and tighter and then let that go and it "cork-screws" all over the place. That added to the visuals of letting the air out of a helium (for height) balloon by letting it go demonstrates how unpredictable he is in speedy motion and you have to be sharp to keep your eye on him as he goes. That's Tripod.

We hate to have to part with someone this special, but we have a high ledge in our home with a 15 foot drop that worries us him getting up there and slipping off.
He has not the same landing advantages as any of the others so he is now back available to the right home.
